Just over the Border into New Mexico
It's amazing how one simple border can change so much. I always think of the difference between Connecticut and New York on the Saw Mill Parkway. The Guard rails go from rusted, mangled, metal, to nicely kept reinforced wood. The change from Texas to New Mexico, In addition to the time change, was definitely noticeable. The land itself and the management of it, was a total change. Here's a picture of Rabbit Ear Mountain which came into sight just as I crossed the State Line.
The first caravan on it’s way from the Missouri River to Santa Fe learned the name of this mountain, OHEJAS de CONEJOS (Rabbit Ears) from the Indians.
