Paso Robles wine festival

Beastly hot but some really nice surprises and discoveries. First stop was of course Tablas Creek, a long time staple of Paso Robles for me. Jason, the son of the owners was there and nice enough to pull me some tastes of bottles off of the usual flight. I had their Single varietal Roussanne, Grenache Blanc, and a first for me, Mourvedre, all on it's own, not simply as a blending grape. Once again, an impressive showing for them. Also got to try some very small production wines as well. Jack Creek, quite possibly the best Pinots I tasted from Paso, Also Kenneth Volk, the previous owner of Wild Horse, who is doing great small batch stuff, definitely refining and improving upon what I tasted from the Wild Horse tent that day. Another stand out, Brian Benson cellars. L'Aventure was done and over by the time I got to their tent, the owner, relaxing with a cigar and chatting up a young lady. I apologized for interrupting, and asked if there was anything to taste. I was directed to visit the vineyard with a wave of the hand. Ha!
Then, of course, food being an important component of the evening, I conferred with some of the local chefs.
