SUNDARAM TAGORE GALLERY
Nathan Slate Joseph... I'd actually stumbled across this guy's studio back in 2001 or so on the Lower West Side or Chelsea somewhere. It was his door I'd noticed, with colored galvanized steel patterned together. I think I'd wandered in, or maybe even rang the bell. Either way, he was nice enough to let me in and look around, after, of course, a New Yorkese "Who the hell are you?" I think he even gave me a cup of tea and introduced me to his young son. He liked that I had gone to Stuyvesant for high school and wanted his son to go there, and asked after my future. I told him I was thinking of going in residence at a monastery for a while to which he asked, "why the hell would you want to do that?" I haven't seen or heard of him since, but when I saw his work on the wall here in LA, I knew it immediately.
