Diamond Terrace

Hal and Maureen Taylor had me up to their home up in Calistoga to taste through their 05 Diamond Mountain District Cab, and as a special treat, their not to be released except in a special lot 06 Two Mountains which has been sold as a whole lot to a buyer at a past auction. We tasted through their cabs in their living room while I got to hear about their special acreage, right outside their door. Hal is an architect, and designed their home and the spacious, wonderful, great room. It was the first chance for me to get an idea of the 06 Cab vintage, and it was a beautiful example of the difference the Howell Mountain fruit (owned by Maureen's family) makes when blended in. Red and black fruit entrance with a nice soft full mid-palate into a long finish with velvety but young firm tannins. The 05 Diamond Mountain showed more red fruit and chocolate, with a round mid-palate and very promising finish.
The pictures, by the way, are shots of the Napa Wine Train crossing 29.
